About Pamela Pipes: Pamela Pipes, a seventh-generation New Orleanian, developed this self-guided tour of key sites related to Hurricane Katrina to enable visitors (and residents) to understand what happened to the city she loved, what progress has occurred, and what challenges remain two years after this natural disaster that led to a man-made catastrophe.
The tour is also designed to encourage people to ask the right questions of their leaders. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and terrorism can happen anywhere – we must all know how to be prepared. To develop the tour, Pamela has drawn on almost two decades as a successful entrepreneur in the tourism industry.
She is the owner of New Orleans…A La Carde (www.alanet.com), a venture that promotes New Orleans and the aspects that make it the most distinctive city in the nation – maybe even the world! “When I’m not leading parades, eating crawfish or chasing festivals, I’m sharing my enthusiasm for my hometown,” says Pamela. “I want to be an ambassador for my city and give visitors a real New Orleans experience.”
As a member of Women of the Storm and Citizens for 1 Greater New Orleans, two prominent grassroots groups devoted to recovery, Pamela is passionate about rebuilding the Crescent City. She is also the proud mother of two adult children.
